As part of a broader brand and platform refresh, one major usability issue demanded immediate attention: search. The previous system, powered by Google, frequently returned irrelevant results and left users frustrated (as shown down below) Fixing it became central to improving the product’s overall quality.
What I did
Supported an end-to-end redesign of search across web and app.
Partnered closely with the lead designer to explore, test, and refine solutions through continuous iteration
Expanded the design system with scalable components that strengthened consistency across platforms

Results
Through constant iteration and user validation, we delivered a clearer, more intuitive search experience that:
Resolved major usability issues
Improved relevance and user trust
Helped elevate the product as a whole
The following year, the platform was awarded Best News Website of 2023 in the UK—a recognition of the collective improvements across the entire digital ecosystem.
This project reinforced a core lesson: the magic happens in iteration, not the first draft.
